What is a reservoir?

A reservoir is a piece of delayed time.

A reservoir is usually described as a place that stores water. That is correct, but incomplete. It stores a future use inside a present landscape: rain that arrives quickly is held so it can be released slowly.

Contours, terraces and stone edges can do the same work before water reaches a tank. They reduce its speed, spread it across the ground and give it time to enter the soil. In that sense, an entire landscape can behave like a reservoir.

Applied hereThe project makes that invisible delay visible. Its paths follow the same logic as runoff, while the existing tank becomes the final room in a much larger system of collection.

The project reworks Dingli's stepped terrain as a water-harvesting landscape. Visitors move between cultivated fields, rubble walls and shallow pools, following a route that rises slowly toward the existing reservoir.

Water is not treated as a technical system hidden from view. Its collection, delay and release shape the public experience of the site. Shifting reflections and changing ground levels reveal its quiet influence over space, time and human presence.

At the summit, the neglected tank becomes a vessel of encounter: a colonnaded room beneath an inverted terrain, where ceiling and ground nearly touch.
