Territory / Douro
Two banks, two ways of knowing the river.
Site / Ouro Valley
The museum begins with the grain of the ground.
Field plan
A chain of apertures marks a route below the surface.
Arrival
The entrance reads as a cut in the valley, not a building placed upon it.
First light
One oculus. One boat. A room measured by daylight.
Promenade
Light arrives in intervals, turning movement into a maritime chronology.
Vessel scale
The plan stretches around the dimensions, rhythm and repair of boats.
Ground section
Earth, waterproofing, insulation and concrete become one inhabited thickness.
The workshop
The museum ends where knowledge is made again.
Roof lens
An ETFE cushion admits a final, diffuse sky.
Return to ground
Above, the architecture is almost absent.
